History
Military Outreach was begun by the National Presbytery during World War II, to provide assistance to military families throughout the nation. The Presbytery of San Diego assumed responsibility for the San Diego chapter of the ministry in 1968. Today, San Diego is the only place in the country where Military Outreach remains an active ministry.
Statement of Purpose
We are called by Jesus Christ to care for the displaced and disadvantaged
military families in our midst. We are guided by Jesus’s words
in Matthew 25:
“I
was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you
gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me
in . . . . [W]hatever you did for one of the least of these brothers
[or sisters] of mine, you did for me.”
We
are committed to sharing the love of Jesus Christ in word and in
deed, by meeting some of the physical, emotional, and spiritual
needs of military families stationed in San Diego County. Physical
needs are met by providing food, children’s clothing, household
goods, baby items, and transportation to medical or other essential
appointments when possible.
Experienced
and committed staff lead the outreach, and their work is enhanced
by the efforts of volunteers who are dedicated to the ministry.
